Widows (2018) Review

This film was pretty fantastic. One of the best capers I’ve seen in quite some time, and just one more compelling reason to completely forget the similarly themed Ocean’s Eight. Very much a film that needs to be seen and discussed rather than something that I feel the need to critique in a normal fashion.
The acting was flawless all around, the direction was as meticulous as I’ve come to expect from Steve McQueen, and the cinematography was great.

The script was smart, taking its time when it needed to, the antagonists felt genuinely threatening, the protagonists felt genuinely sympathetic. There was some social commentary here and there, although that certainly wasn’t the main focus of the story. Regardless, I don’t really want to go into that in reviews I like to keep spoiler free.

Overall: A well-made, and intelligent popcorn heist movie made by a director with a very good artistic eye. It’s one of the better films I’ve seen in cinemas in quite some time and will doubtless come high in my end of year list. Go see it.
Highly recommended!
